Dr. Michael Parker is a native to the central Ohio area. He grew up in Delaware, Ohio just north of Columbus. After graduating from Hayes High School in 1981, Dr. Parker attended Kenyon College where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelors degree in Biology. In the fall of 1985, he enrolled at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, graduating with his doctorate degree in 1989. Dr. Parker then completed his residency training at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1993.
After residency, Dr. Parker joined Drs. Russ and Sprague at Northeast Obstetricians and Gynecologists in Gahanna, Ohio. He holds admitting privileges at Grant Medical Center, Mount Carmel East and St. Ann’s Hospital. At Grant Medical Center, Dr. Parker has served as the Chairman of the Performance Improvement Committee, Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a member of the Peer Review Committee. He also has an active role in the education of resident physicians in the Family Practice and Ob/GYN programs.
Dr. Parker is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (1995), a member of the Ohio State Medical Association and the Columbus Medical Association. He also has received additional training and certification as a Natural Family Planning medical consultant through The Pope Paul VI Institute for the Study of Human Reproduction in affiliation with Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.
In August, 2004, Dr. Parker made a decision based on his Catholic and Pro-life beliefs to change his practice to a Natural Family Planning Only practice (see "Letter to Patients"). This means that he does not prescribe or refer for contraceptive services such as oral contraceptives, Depo-Provera, IUD's, diaphragms or sterilizations. Instead, he prefers to work with his patients to help them gain a greater appreciation for their fertility, and to empower them to work cooperatively with their biologic rhythms, so that they can achieve or avoid pregnancy based on their desires. This knowledge can also be used to help solve common and sometimes complex gynecologic problems such as ovarian cysts, chronic discharges, infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss, unusual bleeding and irregular cycles.
Dr. Parker's other practice interests include routine and high risk obstetrics, general gynecology, infertility, and bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. He is an accomplished gynecologic surgeon performing routine and complex obstetric and gynecologic procedures and minimally invasive procedures.
Dr. Parker and his wife Teresa live with their six children in New Albany. They are active in Pro-Life Causes and attend St. Matthew and St. Patrick Church. Dr. Parker is an active member of the Knights of Columbus. They enjoy spending time together as a family and with friends. Dr. Parker’s other hobbies include fishing, camping, and outdoor sports.
